Eubank Jr vs Benn: Tony Bellew has his say on Liam Smith vs Aaron Mckenna

Eubank Jr vs Benn - Saturday on DAZN PPV - Buy Now

Liam Smith enters his fight against Aaron McKenna this Saturday knowing full well that observers believe he may come unstuck against a rising star

A former world champion who has shared the ring with Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia, Smith’s world level credentials are sometimes forgotten in the build-up to his fights.

A minor underdog going in with McKenna, the unexplainable odds are not having any impact on Tony Bellew’s verdict on the fight.

Since losing his world title to Canelo in 2016, Smith has rebuilt impressively, but it always appears that followers of the sport neglect his experience in favour of youth when making fight selections involving the Liverpool man.

Smith endured it against Liam Williams, a fighter he beat twice, and he also had to hear it when he faced city rival, Anthony Fowler in 2021 , another contest he won.

Still eager to partake in the biggest fights, Smith knows he must win against the unbeaten Irishman this weekend, live on DAZN , and after the fight is over, depending on the result, Smith will carefully plot his next move.

Bellew, who learnt his trade at the Rotunda ABC in Liverpool, like Smith, has offered his thoughts on what could happen when the first bell sounds.

“I’m taking experience in this one all day long. Liam Smith knows how to get the job done,” said Bellew when speaking exclusively to DAZN News

“He’s been in with top operators and lads who were supposed to be the next big thing, and more often than not, it’s Liam who gets his hand raised.

“McKenna looks a top talent, and he can still have a bright future. I like what I’ve seen from him and the courage he has to go over to the States and get out his comfort zone. He will have more big nights, but I just think this one will belong to Liam.”
