Rapidly rising British super lightweight Dalton Smith has revealed that no offers were made for him to face domestic rival Adam Azim on the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn undercard.
Eubank Jr and Benn are set to clash on April 26 at a packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium live on DAZN PPV in a contest which has been three years in the making.
With Eubank Jr's fight against Benn being a Boxxer and Matchroom co-promotion, one fight which was initially teased for the undercard was the long awaited bout between Smith of Matchroom and Boxxer's former European super lightweight champion Adam Azim.
However, with Smith now facing Mathieu Germain on April 19, live on DAZN, was an offer ever made to the Sheffield man to his team?
"The fight never got put on paper in front of us. The only time that fight had been put on the table was when I was mandatory for the European title," Smith told DAZN News in an exclusive interview.
"Obviously, he turned that fight down then. I’ve been going down this route for the last couple of fights, pushing for a world title. That offer never got put in front of me."
Following his ninth round stoppage win over Sergey Lipinets in February, Azim once again called out Smith who one month before dispatched Walid Ouizza with a first round knockout.
While a long-awaited clash with Azim is one that is craved by many British fight fans, Smith instead is focusing on a world title bid claiming that he has "got bigger fish to fry" instead of worrying about a showdown with Azim.
"Some people bark louder than they can bite, it’s the world we live in," Smith continued.
"I just concentrate on myself; fights are made when they are meant to be made, you can’t force anybody to fight.
"I’ve got bigger fish to fry, bigger things to achieve, that’s all I’m focused on."
Smith's upcoming fight with Germain headlines a card with some recognisable names including former featherweight world champion Josh Warrington who fights for the first time since losing to Anthony Cacace in September and British lightweight Josh Padely who recently signed a professional contract with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom.
Fight fans are in for a treat at the end of April / start of May, with three amazing fight cards within seven days - and DAZN PPV is the only place to watch them all.
