Floyd Schofield drew plenty of criticism after an illness dashed his planned fight against Shakur Stevenson in February.
But "Kid Austin" more than made up for it Saturday night, launching the Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. pay-per-view main card, live on DAZN, with an eye-opening first-round TKO of former super featherweight world champion Tevin Farmer at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Schofield (19-0, 13Â KOs) pounced on Farmer early by detonating a scintillating left-right combination which landed flush on the chin, slumping the Philadelphia fighter for a first knockdown.
Though Farmer made it back on his feet, he was on shaky legs and could never recover as Schofield put him back on the canvas with a whiplashing left hook across the jaw next.
Seconds later, Schofield made sure to close out the show in style with enough output to overwhelm Farmer as the referee stepped in and kept the veteran from suffering through any further punishment.
The stunning performance makes Schofield a serious contender at lightweight and perhaps in position to try to solidify a bout with Stevenson once again.
