Idris Virgo backed up his pre-fight boasts as he scored an emphatic stoppage over Aaron Chalmers in front of a frantic Newcastle crowd.
Virgo had promised victory in the build-up and his word was good as several impressive attacks were too much for Chalmers who had no answer for Virgo’s power.
Chalmers began the fight confidently and he enjoyed some standout moments in the opening session as he was able to grab Virgo’s attention with some well-timed shots.
Despite the positive start, the fight soon turned as a brutal body shot from Virgo in the second round flipped the fight completely and Virgo took full advantage.
When Chalmers came out for the third stanza, it was clear that he hadn't recovered from the earlier mid-section assault.
Virgo continued to throw punches and a superb uppercut landed flush and Chalmers was unable to continue.
The towel came in, but it appeared the referee was about to halt the fight anyway.
