A new era in the heavyweight division is coming, according to Agit Kabayel.
The 33-year-old takes on Damian Knyba at Oberhausen's Rudolf Weber Arena on Saturday, live on DAZN, and he believes he is ready to take over boxing’s glamour division.
The German will be defending his WBC interim title and he insists he will become his country’s first heavyweight champion since Max Schmeling.
Speaking on the latest DAZN On The Ground feature video, Kabayel was in bullish mood ahead of his big homecoming this weekend.
“Germany was [all] boxing before, [but] after the Klitschko era, the boxing was finished in Germany,” said Kabayel.
“This was a problem. But now, it’s the Kabayel era! We [will] bring [it] back.”
The Bochum resident is closing in on a world title shot and he admits that is something he has always dreamed of.
“It’s my dream, you know,” he added.
“I am so close, now [that] I am interim world champion. This was always my dream, when I was a small kid, when I started with the boxing.
“People said in Germany, when I started boxing, Kabayel will never be a German [world] champion.
"But now, you see, I was two-time European champion and now I am WBC interim champion, I am so close to the world title shot.”
