James DeGale is set to make a shocking return to the combat sport world this weekend when he makes his bareknuckle debut against Matty Floyd.
Degale and Floyd will headline a huge BKFC show in Manchester , and the fight will be ‘Chunky’s’ first action in almost seven years since his 2019 loss to Chris Eubank Jr.
At his best, DeGale was one of British boxing’s biggest attractions who participated in huge battles on both sides of the Atlantic.
An Olympic gold medalist, DeGale flipped his amateur success into professional glory as he won world titles at super-middleweight and faced some of the sport’s biggest names.
DeGale went in with George Groves, Badou Jack, who was guided by Floyd Mayweather, Lucien Bute, and Eubank Jr, but after enduring a shock setback to the Brighton man, DeGale quietly slipped into retirement.
After sharing the ring with so many quality boxers, who does DeGale consider the hardest puncher he ever stepped into the ring with.
"I got hit hard by a lot of people, but the hardest was in my European title fight with Piotr Wilczewski," said DeGale when speaking to Talksport .
"People probably forget that fight because it wasn't one of my big ones, but it was a good learning fight. I was hit on the top of the head and wobbled, and I had to work hard to win it.
"Badou Jack obviously stood out as well because he dropped me, but that Polish guy hit really hard."
