Junior Fa has enjoyed a healthy rivalry with Joseph Parker, but does he believe his old nemesis will be victorious on Saturday night?
Parker steps into the ring with the hard-hitting Fabio Wardley, and a showdown with Oleksandr Usyk beckons for the winner.
As amateur fighters, Parker and Fa engaged in a high-profile feud with the pair facing each other four times as they each gave it everything trying to prove who was New Zealand’s best fighter in the heavyweight division.
The pair traded two wins with each other, and the hostilities continued into the professional ranks with the fighters often linked to a contest that would attract interest in their homeland.
In 2021, with boxing slowly returning to normality following the COVID-19 pandemic, Parker and Fa met in Auckland in front of a big crowd with the winner set to move on towards the business end of the division.
After 12 rounds, it was Parker who had his hand raised after producing the better work in the latter stages of the fight.
Fa, who has only fought three times since and endured two stoppage losses against Lucas Browne and Frank Sanchez, is perhaps the most qualified to discuss Parker, and he has given his verdict on Saturday's clash.
“I'm definitely backing Joseph Parker to win. I don't see him knocking Wardley out, but I definitely see some competitive rounds,” said Fa when speaking exclusively to DAZN News.
“I think we are going to be seeing somewhat of a competitive fight, because of what each fighter possesses and with the experience of Joseph Parker, I think that that should dictate the fight.
“But we're still going to be on the edge of our seats because of what Fabio Wardley is able to do and what we've seen him do before, like down on every single round and then catch someone and win the fight, But ultimately I see Joseph Parker winning a unanimous decision.”
Joseph Parker and Fabio Wardley fight this Saturday, October 25, to become the WBO mandatory challenger to Oleksandr Usyk. Watch the fight and undercard live and exclusive on DAZN PPV.
