At the end of the 30th round of their storied rivalry, both Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano patiently awaited judges' scores with the recurring feeling that either legend could be ruled the winner.
It started out as a draw with one judge scoring it 95 apiece, but it ended on an all too familiar note — with Taylor eking out another close decision.
After another nip-and-tuck fight, the other two judges scored it 97-93 both for Taylor, with the majority decision keeping her the undisputed super lightweight world champion in front of a sold-out, raucous Madison Square Garden crowd, and many more streaming the all-women's card live on Netflix, on Friday night.
Though one could make the case for either woman getting the better of the exchanges, judges credited Taylor's crisp but few flurries for resisting Serrano's aggression certainly, though the Irish superstar's output was not overly definitive either.
A split decision in April 2022, the first time they headlined and sold out the Garden, followed by a controversial unanimous decision in the rematch last November and now a majority decision, Taylor closed out this rivalry in a third fight which set off the least fireworks, but keeps her champ with a clean sweep, 3-0, over Serrano.
The trilogy fight's final punch stats had Serrano once again producing a higher output with 382 punches thrown to Taylor's 231, though each landed an identical 70 punches.
Perhaps Jake Paul, whose Most Valuable Promotions ran this event, said it best: "It could have gone either way. All the fights have been very close."
