Australian boxing fans could enjoy one of their biggest ever weekends when two of their big stars return to action on June 7 and the following day.
Both men are unbeaten, and each has the power to turn a fight in their favour with one shot meaning that excitement could be possible between two men who are eager to push on and challenge for world honours.
Victory for both men could see them land even bigger fights later this year, but with Opetaia holding ambitions to compete in the heavyweight division one day, a showdown between the pair could happen in the future.
Mick Francis, the main man at Tasman Fighters, plays a significant role in the development of both men, and he has had his say on a potential meeting between the pair.
“Jai and Justis will be fighting inside somewhere like Suncorp Stadium within three, four years,” said Francis when speaking to Fox Sports Australia.
“I guarantee it. Because that fight, it’s already in the back of everyone’s mind, and has been for a while.
“While both guys have tremendous respect for each other -- love each other and will help the other out as much as they can -- they also know that this event will be the biggest domestic fight Australia has ever seen.
“Two heavyweights from opposite sides of the border fighting for a world title, it will be huge. But before that happens, they both have to do their own things in their respective divisions.”
