Moses Itauma compared to boxing legend Mike Tyson ahead of Dillian Whyte showdown
Talk to anyone in boxing about Moses Itauma and the soundbites are always the same.
“A rising star… a big hitter… how good could he be?”
Well, former cruiserweight and heavyweight title-holder David Haye reckons Itauma has the potential to follow a similar career trajectory to Mike Tyson.
Claiming his first belt at 20 years, four months and 22 days old, boxing legend Tyson holds the record as the youngest fighter ever to win a heavyweight title.
DAZNItauma’s aggressive style and record of 12 wins – including 10 by KO – has earned favourable comparisons with Iron Mike as he prepares to face Dillian Whyte in Riyadh on tonight live on DAZN PPV.
It will be the tough test of Itauma’s career but Haye told the Mirror: “As Itauma has gone up levels he's got better and his knockout percentage has got better the better people he's fought and that's not a regular thing.
“Usually, you get these fighters, they get five or six fights, knocking everyone out.
“Then they move up a level gradually and they start winning it on points.
“They start getting knocked down and it doesn't quite gel, but he seems to have passed every single test with flying colours and looked better and better against better opposition.
“I can only liken it to a young Mike Tyson – similar sort of age, similar sort of knockout energy. It's going to be fun on this journey.”
