On this day in 2008 - Major British fighter suffers first loss as he is destroyed in opening round

Amir Khan received an almighty shock in September 2008 when he was destroyed in one round by the unfancied Breidis Prescott in Manchester. 

There had been some warning signs for Khan in the early stages of his career as he had been dropped by Willie Limond and Michael Gomez, but nothing could prepare him for the power Prescott possessed. 

Khan was dropped heavily by the Columbian and despite making it back to his feet, he was in no position to defend the next onslaught that ended the fight.
