It is over two years since Errol Spence last fought, but is Roy Jones Jr. about to assist the former pound-for-pound superstar in making a comeback?
In 2023, Spence was well beaten by Terence Crawford in the biggest fight of the year and that defeat is the last time anyone saw him compete inside a boxing ring.
Despite that setback and lengthy absence from the sport, Spence’s name continues to be linked to the major fights due to his popularity when reigning as welterweight champion of the world.
Last weekend, Spence was linked to a huge showdown in 2026 after Vergil Ortiz showed his class when stopping Erickson Lubin in two rounds .
If that fight comes off, Spence will be jumping back in the deep end, but will he have a new voice in his corner?
Jones Jr, once the best fighter in the world during his prime years, is now training fighters and he will be soon spending time with Spence as the Texan decides his next move.
“I'm going to work him out a little bit to see where he is at and help him get back,” said Jones when speaking with Andre Ward on All the Smoke Fight.
“I do want to see him get back on the horse and ride again. Anything to do to help him out. I'm going to see what I can do. I don't have to be his trainer.
“I just want to help him get going with a couple of days of work and see what he can do and see where he's at. If he likes it, cool. Just help him get back up. Sometimes we all go through these things.”
