All-British showdown to headline Matchroom's Monaco card as Johnny Fisher returns after Dave Allen loss

Masoud vs McGrail - Live on DAZN - Dec 6

Shabaz Masoud and Peter McGrail have been given a new date for their meeting following the postponement of their clash earlier this year, with the all-British bout set to headline a night of boxing in Monaco on Saturday, December 6.

Masoud, 14-0 (4 KOs), will defend his IBO super bantamweight title against McGrail, 12-1 (6 KOs) as the main event in Monte Carlo, to be shown live on DAZN.

The chief support on the night will see IBF lightweight champion Beatriz Ferreira defend her title against Elif Nur Turhan. Both fighters are undefeated professionally, with Olympic silver and bronze medallist Ferreira currently 8-0 (2 KOs) whilst Turhan has seven knockouts from 11 wins.

Heavyweight Johnny Fisher, 13-1 (11 KOs) returns for the first time since losing to Dave Allen in May, taking on Herbert Matovu, 9-1 (8 KOs).

Conah Walker's clash with domestic rival Pat McCormack has finally been confirmed after the pair's war of words over the last few months. Walker, 16-3-1 (7 KOs), will put his British and Commonwealth welterweight titles on the line against Olympian McCormack, who improved to 8-0 (6 KOs) with a ninth-round stoppage of Miguel Parra in September.

Masoud and McGrail were initially set to do battle on Saturday, June 21, as the headline event for a Matchroom show in Birmingham. However, a training injury for Masoud saw the undefeated fighter pull out of the bout, with McGrail going on to defeat Romanian Ionut Baluta on the undercard of Galal Yafai’s clash with Francisco Rodriguez, which was upgraded to the main event. Rodriguez beat Yafai on points, but the fight was later ruled a no contest after the Mexican failed a drug test.

McGrail sustained a cut over his right eye as he battled to a majority decision over the Romanian challenger on the same card, retaining his WBA international super bantamweight title.

Both Masoud and McGrail will be aiming for victory to boost their hopes of entering world title contention in a division currently dominated by undisputed champion Naoya Inoue.

Masoud is currently ranked at No 4 by the IBF, whilst McGrail is viewed as the WBA’s seventh-best contender at 122lbs.

It will be Masoud’s first fight in over a year, with the 29-year-old last fighting in November 2024 in a bout that saw him claim a minor world title from Liam Davies.

That same IBO world title will be on the line against McGrail. Although not unbeaten having lost to Ja’Rico O’Quinn in the USA back in December 2023, McGrail has ended the undefeated starts to two opponents’ careers.

He inflicted a first loss upon Spanish-based Colombian Fran Mendoza two months before suffering a first defeat of his own, whilst Welsh rival Rhys Edwards, then 16-0, was edged by McGrail out in Saudi Arabia last December.
