Shakur Stevenson has long been lobbying for a mega fight with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to no avail, with the generational clash yet to be made by boxing's powerbrokers for the star.

In the meantime, the American is set to defend his WBC lightweight world championship against a rugged William Zepeda at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Corona, Queens, New York City on Saturday night, live on DAZN PPV.

However, in watching stablemate Terence Crawford prepare to move up two divisions to challenge Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight crown in September, would Stevenson ever dare to be greater by climbing weight classes himself?

And if the ‘Tank’ fight continues to slip through his grasp, who would make for a dream bout within the purview of the undefeated lightweight ruler?

DAZN News asked Stevenson just that during the Ring III open workouts Wednesday at Hard Rock Times Square and the Newark fighter singled out another world champion on his radar

“I’m a little guy so I’m chilling at 135 [pounds],” Stevenson began telling DAZN News with a grin before offering, “but I would love to fight Teo [Teofimo Lopez Jr.]

"Teo talks a lot of s—t. He thinks he’s that good so I would love to get in the ring with Teo.”

Lopez, the current WBO super-lightweight world champion was in attendance in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in February to see Stevenson dismantle Josh Padley.

The American secured a ninth-round TKO over his opponent, a late call-up to the ring, but the 140-pound world titleholder was not impressed with his potential foe.

In a subsequent interview with DAZN News this past spring, Lopez questioned everything from Stevenson’s hand injuries to his willingness to get hurt, before saying emphatically that a clash between the two would result in “an easy win for me.”

Of course, Stevenson would like to still see the fight with Davis to fruition, though the business side of boxing always leaves the possibility for the fight to not materialize, thus making a crack at Lopez at 140 an appealing alternative.

While we await to see if either fight can be made, the first line of order for Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) is defeating a pressure fighter in Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs), the interim WBC 135-pound titleholder.

“The bigger the moment, the more I step up,” Stevenson vowed to reporters about meeting Zepeda’s forward fighting head on. “That’s what I plan on doing Saturday night.”

If successful, perhaps talks for Lopez-Stevenson can shift into a higher gear.
