Many boxing fans thought Lamont Roach Jr. did enough to upset Gervonta 'Tank' Davis in their March fight which was controversially ruled a draw.

The two seemed to be heading toward an August rematch to resolve their unfinished business, though the sequel never materialized amidst Davis being arrested in June for allegedly assaulting the mother of two of his kids, as reported by Ring Magazine.

So, how did Roach feel this week upon learning that Davis’ November 14 fight against Jake Paul was cancelled too, following the latest charges against ‘Tank’?

“I wasn’t thinking nothing, honestly,” Roach exclusively divulged in a Zoom conference with DAZN News on Wednesday. “It just wasn’t on my radar. Obviously a lot of people talk about it, but I really just didn’t … it was like ‘oh that happened? Oh well. I guess.’ It’s not something that interests me.”

Did the Davis-Paul fight being scrapped, shock him, though?

“Surprised? No,” Roach admitted. “You got to know what you’re dealing with and who you’re dealing with.”

Like Roach, Paul, too, will have to move on from ‘Tank.’

Roach clashes with Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz for the interim WBC super lightweight world title at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, and live on pay-per-view, on December 6.

Though it marks an excellent headlining opportunity, it is not the rematch with Davis that Roach was originally coveting. But it is a fight that Roach could use to set up an even bigger 2026 if he gets his hand raised against the rugged Mexican.

In March, Roach gave ‘Tank’ his toughest matchup to date in a bout that had Davis even taking a knee, though it was not registered as an official knockdown.

Davis later said he only knelt because grease from his hair burned his eye which added to the controversy.
