Tyson Fury says Conor McGregor will train him for MMA debut this year

DAZN

Professional wrestling isn't the only sport Tyson Fury plans on crossing over into this year.

Already set to face Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel on Thursday and rematch with Deontay Wilder on Feb. 22, the lineal heavyweight boxing champion of the world claims he's trying to squeeze in a mixed martial arts debut in the middle of the bouts — before 2019 comes to a close. And he has just to person to guide his path into the octagon: none other than Conor McGregor.

"We might see Tyson Fury in his MMA debut this year too," Fury told Sky Sports News on Sunday. "It's different, but like I said, Tyson Fury is taking over. I've been speaking to Conor about it and he's willing to train me. It's going to be good. He just said, 'Anytime you're ready, when you get the time, let's go. Come over to Dublin and we'll start training.' So, I'm going to take him up on the offer and we're going to get it done."

When asked of the different mindset that it will take to adjust from a boxing ring to WWE and MMA, Fury didn't sound pressed, pointing to his history as a fighter as all he needs to persevere in yet another new sport for him.

One would think that the 31-year-old's ultra ambitious plan goes against conventional wisdom, as it should take a longer time to prepare for an MMA fight. But Fury seems hell-bent on at least trying.
