The trash talking and the animosity between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier gets settled inside the Octagon on Saturday as they meet in their highly anticipated trilogy bout from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
McGregor and Poirier first battled at UFC 178 with the Irishman stopping Poirier in under two minutes.
Over six years later they met at January's UFC 257, with Poirier thrashing McGregor's leg to help set up his second-round TKO victory and evening the score at one all. Now, they will settle the score at UFC 264.
“If I am the best in the world, then I’m gonna beat Conor and fight for the belt. It’s like doubling down on yourself,” Poirier told ESPN. “I’m a gambling man. I believe in my skills and fighting. So I just doubled down. That’s what it was.”
One of the narratives heading into UFC 264 has been McGregor overlooked Poirier and was looking ahead to a boxing match against Manny Pacquiao. While McGregor hasn't confirmed that, he does admit all systems are locked in.
“In 16 hours time, this man is going to learn that when you disrespect a person’s kindness and take it as a weakness, you must pay,” McGregor told Joe Rogan after the ceremonial weigh-in on Friday. “Tomorrow night, I’m gonna make this man pay with his life — and I mean it. You’re dead in that octagon tomorrow night.”
We are hours away from UFC 264. Who is going to win and earn themselves a shot at the lightweight title against champion Charles Oliveira?
