Over the weekend, American Top Team owner Dan Lambert instituted down a "zero tolerance" policy in regards to the trash talk that's been going on between notable team fighters Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington.
The former friends and roommates have been verbally insulting each other for months with no end in sight. Before Lambert's edict, Covington tossed one more jab towards the BMF champion.
"What's my message to Jorge 'Journeyman' Jorge Masvidal, a.k.a. 'Street Judas,' the guy who tried to stab me in the back for money and business?" Covington said on Submission Radio. "You got your ass-whooping waiting, buddy. You got your 10 seconds of fame. They're up. You hit lightning in a bottle. But let's look at your record, buddy. You got double-digit losses on your record. You're a 50/50 average, mediocre fighter. Stop acting like you're so great, you ain't great. You know what happened when we used to train for the last eight, nine years. There's never been one second where you have ever beat me.
"So, if you want to get embarrassed in front of the world, let's do it because Jorge keeps talking about wanting to fight in the streets. It's like, 'Dude if we fight in the streets who's going to pay your medical bills, Jorge? At least if we fight in the UFC octagon, I'm gonna break your jaw, I'm gonna rearrange your face, and the UFC will cover your medical bills. So, let's leave our business in the octagon. But he doesn't want to fight me in the octagon. He knows better than that."
When news of the ban was reported, Masvidal made sure to get one more dig in at the former interim welterweight champion to continue the feud.
(Warning: Tweet contains profanity):
Fuck coby. The most fragile most sensitive guy in ufc history. Can’t kick me out cause this rule was for fighters only. Not crotch sniffers that get their jaw broken by other crotch sniffers. @AmericanTopTeam we all know that dude is no fighter. https://t.co/TvmJXpucEz— Jorge Masvidal UFC (@GamebredFighter) March 24, 2020
But Masvidal isn't the only one at ATT who has an issue with Covington.
Former women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk took issue with comments Covington made after he called the Polish fighter "washed up" after losing to current 115-pound titlist Zhang Weili at UFC 248 in a Fight of the Year candidate.
Jedrzejczyk told ESPN on Tuesday that Covington is disgracing the gym, and Lambert needs to send him packing.
"He's such a liar,"Jedrzejczyk said. "He wants this exposure. He needs attention because he has nothing to offer to the world. It isn't him. Someone is writing these for him, and I know who that is. I feel sorry (for) him, that he needs to jump on me, Jorgie, (Dustin) Poirier. We're real warriors, and he's trying to get advantage of us.
"I think Dan Lambert should kick him out. He's putting this place in shame."
