The London sides each walked away with a point.

Tottenham Hotspur inched closer to a spot in the Premier League's top four with a 1-1 draw at West Ham United on Tuesday.

It was the third such scoreline on an unusually busy weeknight in the league, with Spurs and West Ham each netting in the first half of a cagey match at the London Stadium.

Brennan Johnson opened the scoring for the visitors in the fifth minute and Kurt Zouma responded with a 19th-minute leveller before the sides cancelled each other out for the remainder of the contest.

"Yeah it was [tough physically] and it's what you expect when you come here," Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglu told BBC Match of the Day.

"They are a strong team and they sit compact so you have to be patient. I thought we handled it OK. Disappointed not to get a better outcome but a tough game."

Spurs now sit two points back of fourth place Aston Villa with just eight matches left on the schedule for both sides, although Villa will be in action on Wednesday at Manchester City.

With the end of the season drawing closer and thin margins separating teams in many of the races up and down the table, Postecoglou expects matches to become even tougher as the weeks roll on.

"There's a lot of games to go still," he said.

"I will be very surprised if all games aren't tight. Everyone is fighting for something. We have to maintain our levels."
