The second Michael Carrick era at Manchester United continues to impress after the Red Devils became the first team to defeat Arsenal this season at Emirates Stadium.
Man United secured a comeback 3-2 victory over the Premier League leaders on Sunday, with goals from Bryan Mbuemo, Patrick Dorgu, and Matheus Cunha. The latter two strikes were particularly noteworthy as both came off shots taken from outside the penalty area, leading to the Red Devils becoming the first side to score three times in a match at the north London stadium in 2025-26.
Sunday's result gives caretaker manager Carrick his second straight victory over a top two side after Man United defeated crosstown rivals Manchester City last weekend.
For longtime defender Harry Maguire, the back-to-back wins showed his team's mettle under Carrick.
"It was absolutely massive," Maguire told Sky Sports. "We know that the first game [under Carrick], the [Manchester] derby at Old Trafford, you're always up for them, and you know that one-off results can happen, so we had to back it up today.
"We spoke about it before the game, coming to the league leaders, who have been excellent this year, I must say, they ask a lot of questions of you, to come here and have the setback late on to get the winner, it was a magnificent performance.
"Michael's come in, he's been brilliant with us, he's brought a fresh energy in, the group's really galvanised. Two tough games, everybody's probably thinks we come away from them with not many points but to win both is magnificent."
The result puts the Red Devils into fourth place, bypassing Liverpool and Chelsea in the process. However, Carrick warned his players not to get carried away after two massive results in short order.
"It's only been 10 days, we know it's not going to be perfect," Carrick said. "We're just starting, and it's a good starting point, but we need to start putting some layers on top, and we'll try to do that in the coming weeks."
