Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers credits 'hard work' for jaw-dropping pair of goals against Man Utd

Morgan Rogers was the hero for Aston Villa as his two goals powered the team to a 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

The 23-year-old scored a pair of stunning strikes to pace his side to victory, and both were the result of Rogers cutting in from the left and curling the ball past Man United goalkeeper Senne Lammens and into the top right corner of the net.

The goals — one on either side of halftime — were highlight reel-worthy shots from distance, and Rogers said that they were a result of his efforts in training.

"It's hard work, it's long hours and you want every one to go in the top corner like that, so it's nice when one does go in," Rogers told Sky Sports. "You've just got to keep trying it and trying it, and sometimes it's your day, sometimes it isn't.

"Luckily lately it has been and I'm happy about that."

Sunday's pair of goals followed another two-goal performance by Rogers in last week's 3-2 win over West Ham, and the increasingly influential player expressed pleasure at the team's results as they look to challenge Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

The win over Man United gives Villa seven straight victories in the league and 10 straight overall, with Rogers stating that he and his teammates have taken each match individually.

"It's massive," he said. "Every game is important, against no bigger team than United.

"They are a tough team to play against and we have not had a good record against them recently so we wanted to put it right and we are just really happy with the three points."
