Liverpool striker Alexander Isak suffered a significant injury blow during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur and will face a lengthy period on the sidelines.
The £125million British-record signing fractured his left ankle when scoring the Reds’ opener against Tottenham on Saturday, and the club announced on Monday that he underwent successful surgery to repair the injury, which also included a fibula fracture.
But the Sweden forward is expected to be out for some time, and that could force Liverpool to sign a replacement when the transfer window opens on January 1.
The Bournemouth frontman is more of a wideman than an out-and-out striker, but he would certainly bolster Liverpool’s frontline.
Manchester United and Manchester City are said to be leading the race for the 25-year-old’s signature next month.
But Liverpool has also been touted as a potential destination for a player who has lit up the Premier League this season.
Crucially, Semenyo’s £65million release clause can be triggered in the first two weeks of the January window, and he appears certain to leave the Cherries for a bigger club.

The striker has never made any attempt to hide his love for Liverpool, having supported them since boyhood.
So could he soon be adorning the famous red jersey?
Toney has been playing in Saudi Arabia for Al-Ahli since leaving Brentford in August 2024.
The 29-year-old would surely jump at the chance to return to the Premier League and play for Liverpool in a World Cup year.
A successful second half of the season at Anfield could propel him back into England contention ahead of next summer’s showpiece tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Previously linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, Liverpool would surely be Toney’s dream move.
The Mancunian continues to age like a fine wine on the south coast at Brighton.
Welbeck is now 35 but has been bagging plenty of goals again this season, scoring seven times in 18 appearances.
His performances for the Seagulls have also prompted talk of an England recall for a player who remains a class act.
Welbeck would take some prising away from Brighton, but signing him would ease the burden on Hugo Ekitike massively with Isak out injured.

The Juventus striker is due to be out of contract in the summer, and there has been no indication of a renewed offer from the Bianconeri.
Negotiations have reportedly stalled, creating growing uncertainty around his long-term future in Turin.
With talks at a standstill, Vlahovic will soon be free to speak with foreign clubs from next month and agree a pre-contract move in the summer.
But Liverpool may look to sign him in January for a fee of around £20million, which would mean the Old Lady avoiding losing him for nothing.

The Porto striker has been scoring goals for fun this season and has already been linked with Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle.
Aghehowa, 21, has bagged 15 times in 21 appearances this term, and his performances are attracting admiring glances from far and wide.
The Spaniard is a player Liverpool may be tempted to make a play for next month, especially given his age and potential as a long-term investment.
