Cole Palmer will "for sure" miss England's upcoming World Cup qualification matches due to injury, according to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

Palmer was not in Chelsea's squad for Sunday's 1-0 loss at Arsenal, with Maresca stating that the midfielder was battling an illness and a "very small" injury.

The 22-year-old's creativity was missed by the Blues as they could not crack the Gunners' stout defence, but Maresca said after the match that Palmer should be fine by the time Chelsea are back in action against Tottenham on April 3.

"The feeling is that he can be back after the international break," Maresca told BBC Match of the Day.

As for whether that means Palmer will also be absent for England's matches against Albania and Latvia, Maresca was straightforward.

"For sure [Palmer will miss those matches], because he is injured and he didn't play today," he said.
