The domestic football season may now have drawn to a close, but there’s plenty of football to look forward to this summer – including the FIFA Club World Cup.

Some of the world’s biggest names will be heading to the USA to compete in the newly revamped tournament from 32 teams across the globe, and they could be joined by one the game’s all-time greats.

Al-Nassr may not be one of the teams heading to the States, but Cristiano Ronaldo could still be part of the festivities, adding to the competition's all-star line-up.

FIFA has introduced an additional transfer window this summer, running from June 1 to June 10, to allow clubs competing in the Club World Cup to complete transfers in time for the tournament, which could see a number of unexpected moves made in the market.

One of these was hinted at during a YouTube appearance by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, in which he claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo could play in this year’s FIFA Club World Cup.

Now, the Portuguese icon has added fuel to the fire with a cryptic post on social media about his future.

Following the end of the Saudi Pro League season, the 40-year-old posted a message on X that said, 'This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.' Suggesting that a new challenge may await the football legend.

With his contract with the Saudi club set to wind down this summer, it opens the door for Ronaldo to leave the Middle East and add his superstar presence to the tournament.

Al-Nassr finished third in the Saudi Pro League behind Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal, but Ronaldo topped the goalscoring charts for the second season in a row, with 24 goals, and would be a welcome addition to FIFA’s new summer extravaganza.

Reports in Spain have said that an unknown Brazilian club has already put an offer on the table to Ronaldo, which could be one of four Brazilian sides that have qualified for the Club World Cup.
