Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain bring the FIFA Club World Cup to a close today - Sunday, July 13 - as they meet in the final at MetLife Stadium
The expanded tournament has been seen as a dry run for next year's World Cup, when the USA co-hosts the record 48-team competition alongside Mexico and Canada and to signify importance, the game will have one notable attendee.
US President Donald Trump has been a strong supporter of the Club World Cup and confirmed to reporters at a Cabinet meeting earlier this week that he will be in attendance in New Jersey, by stating, "I'll be going to the game."
Trump's role at the game is yet to be confirmed, with suggestions that the 79-year-old may be on hand to present the trophy at the end of the game to whoever is victorious.
However, his presence is a sure sign of the importance of the event, as the US prepare for the World Cup next year, with the final set to take place in the same East Rutherford venue.
Trump's announcement comes in the same week that FIFA announced the opening of a new office at Trump Tower, where the Club World Cup trophy will be on display in the days running up to the final.
"We have received such a big support from the government and from the President with the White House Task Force for the FIFA Club World Cup [now] and for the FIFA World Cup next year," FIFA president Gianni Infantino said about the relationship with the US.
The second term of Trump's reign has seen the 47th President embrace the sporting spotlight on quite a grand scale.
He became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl back in February, before announcing Washington, D.C., as the host for the 2027 NFL Draft from the Oval Office. Trump has also been seen at a number of UFC events since taking up office in the White House for a second term.
