Jordan Morris has played in some big games during his career, and this summer he'll add more memorable matches as the Seattle Sounders take part in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Morris is a longtime member of both the Sounders and U.S. national team and has competed in high stakes matches for both club and country, including multiple MLS Cup finals, CONCACAF Champions League finals, the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the FIFA World Cup.
The 30-year-old was also a part of the Sounders' first foray in the FIFA Club World Cup, which was a single second-round game in 2022. Starting in June, Morris and Co. will add at least three more FIFA Club World Cup matches to their history, and for added importance they will be hosting all three at their home ground.
"I’m super proud to be a part of this tournament, it’s the biggest club competition in the world," Morris told DAZN.
"You know, being the first MLS team to participate in one, a couple of years ago, was an amazing experience but to be part of this expanded one, to have games here in Seattle in front of our fans. It’s going to be an incredible experience."
The Sounders have been drawn into Group B with Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid and Botafogo, giving them the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the best players on the planet.
Morris calls it a "once in a lifetime" event.
"Absolutely, this is something I dreamed of as a kid, to play against some of the biggest clubs in the world, to play against some of the biggest players in the world," he said.
"I know for this group, a lot of the players that played in the last one, we were one game away from playing against Real Madrid and that was a big let-down to not be able to get to experience that.
"So to have the chance to play against PSG, to play against Atlético Madrid, to play against Botafogo. Obviously, once in a lifetime things, for the Sounders and for this fanbase, and again, to be able to play those games at home in front of our fans is going to be really special."
Of the upcoming matches, Morris pointed to the games against the two European giants in the group as ones that he and the Sounders are most looking forward to.
"We’re really looking forward to playing against PSG and Atlético, I think for a few reasons," Morris said. "Just getting to experience that level of play, but also to prove what we’re about as a club, what we’re about as a city, what the league, you know MLS, is about - I think the league has grown so much, you know the quality has grown so much.
"So to be able to showcase that against the best teams in the world, we’re confident we’re going to be able to step out there and compete and do our best to try to win those games.
"But, I think just really trying to showcase our ability as a team, and the league’s ability, will be a really great opportunity."
While Morris is eagerly anticipating the matches against PSG and Atlético, he is not discounting Seattle's opening fixture against the group's Brazilian representatives. In fact, he argues that it may be the most important match of the competition for the Sounders.
"Yeah, the game against Botafogo will be special, it’s our first one," he said. "You know, obviously they’re a great team as well, but going against those two heavyweights in the next two games, I think we want to start off the tournament on a good footing.
"So, you know, we’ve had players that have played for Botafogo before, players that have played in Brazil that can maybe help us to understand that style of play a little bit and what they’re going to bring.
"But it will be a very exciting moment to step out on the pitch in that first game for us in the [FIFA] Club World Cup, again at home, and they're definitely going to provide a challenge. So we’re looking forward to it."
