Former Manchester United defender believes Europa League will save club's season

Manchester United's season can be saved if they win the Europa League, according to former defender Wes Brown.

Ruben Amorim's team are set to finish on the worst points total in the Premier League era following a disastrous league campaign. However, they have saved their best performances for their European adventure.

Last week, it took a Harry Maguire winner in the last minute of extra time to settle a ridiculous quarter-final second leg tie against Lyon, and the Red Devils now must overcome Athletic Bilbao to book their place in the Europa League final.

Speaking exclusively to DAZN News, thanks to AOS, Brown was asked if he thinks that winning the Europa League would make up for a miserable season domestically.

"A hundred per cent, yeah," he said.

"I know it sounds daft and the league's been very poor but, you know winning a cup in general is brilliant.

"We've done it the two previous seasons and winning the Europa League would be a big lift. It gets you in the Champions League as well.

"That gives you a boost for next season. It also helps you get players in I think personally. Would you say we've been let off a little bit? Yes, I would because the Premier League hasn't been good enough, the results haven't been good enough but it gives you a lifeline for next season and it's definitely a priority for the rest of the season."

Brown also has high hopes next season for one of United's young stars, having been impressed with this season.

The club's defence hasn't had many plaudits so far this campaign, but the former England international believes that they have a real star prospect for the future in their ranks.

"I love Yoro if I'm being honest," he added.

"I really like him. Athletic, quick, strong, good on the ball. You don't get many young, young defenders not making too many mistakes but recently Yoro's been showing me that he could be world-class."
