Gary Pallister says decision has to be made over future of Erik ten Hag ahead of next seasonDAZN
The Dutchman is under huge pressure at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Pallister has urged the club not to sack Erik ten Hag and stick with his vision of the club.

The pressure on the Dutchman intensified after Monday's 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace, and there is still speculation that the club's new owners will look to replace the manager at the end of what's been a disappointing season for the club.

However, speaking to BetVictor, Premier League winner Pallister thinks Ten Hag and the club need to look ahead and stop looking at getting rid of managers as the answer.

"This year has been really tough and losing the number of games Manchester United have is always going to put pressure on the manager," he said.

"The club seems to be stuck in a cycle of sacking a manager every two years and they can’t carry on doing that.

“A decision has to be made at the highest level, but they’ll be working with Ten Hag, talking to him about his vision. He’s talked about bringing young players through and that has happened with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. Now a conversation needs to be had between Ten Hag and INEOS to plot a path going forward.”

After the defeat at Selhurst Park, United are on course for their worst-ever Premier League placing, but Pallister believes this is not the time to blow things out of proportion, and fans should concentrate on the positive things Ten Hag has done at the club.

Pallister added: “It is easy to get emotional about everything happening at Manchester United after their 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

"There are mitigating circumstances there, one of those being the back four. They’ve only managed to play the same back four in back-to-back games a couple of times this season and one of those was with Casemiro in there, who isn’t a centre-back. It has been a difficult time for Erik ten Hag.

“Last year everyone was pleased with the way things were going, they got back into the Champions League and it looked as though progress was being made. Ten Hag made some big calls in a couple of situations with Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho, which have proven to be the right decisions.”
