There will be a Boxing Day bonanza of National League action on Friday as struggling Gateshead host promotion contenders Carlisle United.
Mark Hughes' men are in a run of indifferent form that has seen them drift from league leaders Rochdale and are now sitting in fifth, three points adrift of the top.
Crucially, though, the Cumbrians have played three more games than The Dale.
Carlisle's last outing ended in a 2-0 away defeat to surprise package Boreham Wood, who leapfrogged them to go fourth, thanks to goals from Zak Brunt and Abdul Abdulmalik.
As for Alun Armstrong's men, they cannot buy a win, having lost their last nine matches in all competitions. Surprisingly, their last triumph was a 2-0 victory away at AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup at the start of November.
