The Serie A title race has been as tight as it was expected to be so far this season, with just three points currently separating the top four.

However, as we approach the halfway point of the campaign, it's Inter who lead the way as they look to go one better than last season and land the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri's efficiency this term has seen them so far best their rivals, while also leaning on an attack that has seen goals from all of their frontmen - most notably Lautaro Martinez, who tops the goalscoring chart.

However, the margins are slim, and Inter have already lost to both Napoli and rivals Milan this season and the club's most famous English import, Paul Ince, believes that while his old side have performed adequately so far, he's urged them to keep winning games for when things start to get real in the spring.

“Inter Milan have done OK," Ince exclusively told DAZN News on behalf of the Covers.com World Cup betting team.

"They were obviously disappointing in the Champions League against Liverpool. They set up not to lose, rather than to win the game. Previously, they lost the Milan derby, which is never a good feeling, even for ex-players like myself.

"When I was in Italy, we never lost the Milan derby. I never tasted defeat against Milan. To lose 1-0 to Milan was a bit of a disaster.

“Inter have been hit and miss. Obviously, their form in Serie A has been very good and it’s still early in the title race. Sir Alex Ferguson would always say the title race doesn’t start until March, but the fact that Inter will be up against Milan and Napoli it bodes well for an exciting race for the championship. They’ve got to keep winning games, though."

Paul Ince

Ince became a cult hero during his time at the San Siro in the league's mid-nineties heyday, leading them to a UEFA Cup final during his two seasons in Italy and is still a keen follower of the club.

Assessing the current crop, the former England midfielder likens the situation to Arne Slot's arrival at Anfield, where Inter boss Christian Chivu came into the club at the start of the summer and inherited a squad built by previous gaffer Simone Inzaghi.

Yet, it's that continuity and the same experienced names that Ince hopes will get the Milan club over the line to win back the league title.

Adding, “Inter have a new manager, Cristian Chivu, who is very inexperienced. Losing Simone Inzaghi to Saudi Arabia last summer was a big blow. But Chivu is facing a similar situation to that of Arne Slot at Liverpool last year. Slot had more or less the same team as Jurgen Klopp and didn’t have to change too much – Chivu’s situation is similar.

"He has the same squad, players that know each other – Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, Nicolo Barella, Piotr Zielinski – all those players have been with the club for a long time. Chivu has come in and inherited a team that knows what they’re doing, knows how to play each other’s game. So he’s been quite fortunate in that regard.

“Fingers crossed they can keep winning games and hopefully win the league. Losing out last year to Napoli was a big blow, having won it the previous season. I’m sure they’ll be pushing to win back the title this time.”
