Liam Rosenior believes all the tools for success are already in place for Chelsea. It's just a matter of using them properly.
The 41-year-old has taken over as head coach of the Blues after the New Year's Day sacking of Enzo Maresca, who led the team to two major trophies in 2025 but could not help the team keep pace in the Premier League title race despite an influx of 11 new players at a cost of over £300 million.
Chelsea now sit eighth in the league standings amid a five-match winless streak, and Rosenior will hope to hit the ground running as he attempts to salvage the season of one of the biggest clubs in England.
The former Strasbourg boss took over the coaching reins from caretaker coach Calum McFarlane on Thursday, following Chelsea's 2-1 loss to neighbours Fulham. His first match in charge is Saturday's FA Cup third round match at second-tier Charlton Athletic, allowing Rosenior to ease into the role, but things get much more challenging next week when the Blues host league-leading Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Jan. 14 before Chelsea return to Premier League action with a visit to red-hot Brentford three days later.
The upcoming stretch of games will put Rosenior's feet to the fire immediately, but the longtime former Premier League player believes his team is equipped to handle the adversity.
It's on him to bring the best out of an "outstanding" squad, he said.
"They are outstanding and talented players with huge potential and the job for me is to turn that potential into reality," Rosenior said at his first pre-match press conference as new Chelsea boss.
"Having potential is one thing; I'm potentially a very good coach, the players are potentially – although some of them already are – world-class players. But we can't be potentially a world-class team; we need to be a world-class team. That's where I'm trying to take the club."
For his part, Rosenior says the players have been receptive to his methods so far. Now it's about seeing how everyone works together during matches.
"I'm very excited to work with this group," he said. "I've had two wonderful days being welcomed by them and by everyone – I feel at home already.
"The players have been magnificent with me and their engagement and how they've made my staff and me at home, and now I want to get into the games with them."
