Fernando Morientes names superstar whose 'best years are over' but would still be an 'extraordinary' signing for Liverpool

Kevin De Bruyne may not be at his peak any more, but Fernando Morientes believes the outgoing Manchester City star would still be an "extraordinary" signing for Liverpool.

De Bruyne will leave City after this season, his 10th with the Sky Blues. During that decade, the Belgian helped the club win the Premier League title six times — along with a pair of FA Cups, five Carabao Cups and a Champions League — as he became one of the most decorated players of his generation.

However, an overall decline by the Sky Blues this season will almost certainly prompt a squad overhaul this summer, and De Bruyne will be among the players to depart as last month he confirmed that this season will be his last at the Ethiad Stadium — although the 33-year-old could stick around for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup before making the move to another club.

Morientes, who won an FA Cup with Liverpool in 2006, acknowledged that De Bruyne will not likely regain the dominant form that got him on the FIFPRO World 11 five times, but he feels that the midfielder's pedigree and experience could still be useful for a Liverpool side looking to win back-to-back Premier League titles.

"It seems to me that Kevin De Bruyne's best years are over," Morientes told CasinoHawks . "It's a similar situation to Luka Modric. The name really catches your attention and the signing would be extraordinary for Liverpool, but you also have to think a little with common sense.

"Kevin De Bruyne's best years, he's probably already had them but he won't lose his quality. Another Premier League title? It's true that there are 32-year-old players who change teams and continue to perform well in Spain. So maybe he can too."
