Manchester City's FIFA Club World Cup campaign came to an end at the last-16 stage with a shock 4-3 defeat to Al Hilal.
It summed up a disappointing season for the Premier League club, failing to win a major piece of silverware.
It's no secret that City's Abu Dhabi owner's wealth has made them a footballing behemoth, but competing in this tournament has brought even more financial resources to manager Pep Guardiola, who will be determined to bring back those title winning moments in the 2025/25 season.
By being knocked out in the USA earlier than expected, City will not receive the overall £93m / $125m for being crowned champions.
However, they have still taken huge financial rewards from being involved in the competition.
Manchester City were awarded between £9.5m-£28.5m ($12.81-$38.19m) for just appearing in the competition.
The exact payout was determined on a FIFA performance criteria for European clubs. Being recent Champions League winners and for dominating the Premier League for so long, we expect City to be at the higher end of this range.
Following an emphatic win over Juventus in their final group match, City were only team to reach the knockout stages with a 100% winning record. Their three wins pocketed £4.5m / $6m - a single win in the group stage was worth £1.5m / $2m alone.
For reaching the Round of 16, City then earned themselves an additional £5.5 m / $7.5 m.
This means in total City amassed £10m / $13.5m in prize money, on top of the participation payout.
So, in full, the total would be a minimum of £20m / $26m, a max of £38m / $51m. We'd expect Manchester City to be at the £38m range.

City have recently signed the likes of Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri for £31m, and Lyon forward Rayan Cherki for £30.5m.
So, by earning £38m from the Club World Cup, they have covered the full cost of one of those signs, with a bit of spare change to still use. Not bad.
The winning club could earn up to £93m / $125m, which rivals the prize money earmarked for the winners of the UEFA Champions League.
This is made up of $40m for winning the final, added to prize money for progressing from each round.
| Stage | Per club |
| Group stage (three matches) | $2m / £1.4m win or $1m/ £746k draw |
| Round of 16 | + $7.5m / £5.5m |
| Quarter-final | + $13.125m / £9.7m |
| Semi-final | + $21.0m / £15.6m |
| Finalist | + $30m / £22.3m |
| Winner | + $40m / £29.8m |
