Pep Guardiola's star-studded Manchester City will be favourites to win this fascinating Group G clash, but can expect a tough test against Morocco's most successful club team. Wydad qualified for the Club World Cup by winning the 2021/22 CAF Champions League, while City booked their spot in the USA by lifting UEFA Champions League the following season.
New Man City signings Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders are set to make their club debuts. Rodri, who has been out since last September with a knee injury, also could return to the City midfield.
Wydad brought in reinforcements for the Club World Cup, namely former Watford winger Nordin Amrabat. The club also made a coaching change last month, replacing Rhulani Mokwena with Mohamed Amine Benhachem.
"Obviously, speaking to a few of the lads, we've spoken about [winning the 32-team Club World Cup], being the first on the trophy would be nice. So that's definitely the aim, and with the players that we have and the quality we have in the team, I am pretty sure we're more than capable of doing that."
Phil Foden, Manchester City midfielder
“That [the Club World Cup] is the level we want to be at. As players, we are fully aware of the responsibility on our shoulders and what lies ahead. Wearing the Wydad shirt gives you the confidence to play fearlessly. That’s what I hope we bring to the tournament so we perform at a level worthy of the club.”
Jamal Harkass, Wydad defender

It is perhaps fitting that the first ticketed event at Lincoln Financial Field was the eye-catching friendly between European rivals Barcelona and Manchester United in August 2003, with Patrick Kluivert having the honour of scoring the venue’s first goal. Now home to NFL side Philadelphia Eagles, the impressive arena has also been selected to host five group-stage matches and a Round of 16 tie during the eagerly anticipated 48-team FIFA World Cup 26™.
