Manchester City reminded Bournemouth of the pecking order in the Premier League with a convincing 3-1 win on Sunday.
Bournemouth entered the weekend in second place, with Man City having fallen to fifth following their loss to Aston Villa last weekend. The Cherries looked to leave the Etihad with a statement result against the perennial title contenders, but instead they were shown just how far they need to go to truly join the league's elite as Erling Haaland scored twice for the Sky Blues and Nico O'Reilly added Man City's third in a match that also saw Bournemouth's Tyler Adams score in the 25th minute.
For Haaland, who continued his absurd scoring exploits with his 12th and 13th goals in his team's 10th Premier League match, Sunday's performance was much needed in light of last week's disappointing result.
"Important win," Haaland told Sky Sports. "It is good to bounce back after losing a bad away game. It was nice."
The runaway Golden Boot leader at this stage of the season, Haaland, says his purpose is to score goals and help his side win however he can.
"I tried to contribute for the team by doing my job," he said. "It is good to win. Now two more important games to come [against Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool], so keep focusing.
"I didn't score last game. I try to help the team to win. That is my goal, and even by scoring or helping in winning duels, it doesn't matter. I want to help the team become better; that is my job."
With those two upcoming games in mind, Haaland was pulled by manager Pep Guardiola in the 82nd minute. While the substitution was a strategic move to save Man City's most important player for a midweek Champions League clash, Haaland joked that there may have been some fans who were not pleased to see his exit, adding, "There were probably a few fantasy managers who were not so happy."
