Heading into the opening match of Sunday's 2025 FIFA Club World Cup showdown between Manchester City and Al Ain, live and free on DAZN, many soccer fans were expecting a blowout.

After scoring only two goals in Wednesday's shoutout win over Wydad AC, and a game with Juventus on the horizon, the question was: Would they overlook Al Ain?
That question was answered eight minutes in when Ilkay Gundogan scored the first of his two goals. Manchester City didn't look back, scoring another five goals. Coach Pep Guardiola easily could've taken the foot off the gas pedal when Gundogan scored again at the 73-minute mark. However, Guardiola refused to pump the brakes as his team scored two more goals.
That bravado not only let Juventus know but also showed the rest of the field that they are a force to be reckoned with.Â
Haaland Gets On The Board
Did anyone honestly think Erling Haaland would go scoreless in the 2025 FIFA World Cup?Â
It may have taken longer than Manchester City fans would have liked, but the 24-year-old got on the board with a penalty kick goal at the 45+5' mark to send his team into the locker room with a 3-0 lead at halftime. The goal was Haaland's 32nd of the season.Â
He added to his point total at the 89-minute mark with a slick assist to Rayan Cherki for the sixth and final goal.Â
