Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has admitted his side are seeking revenge when they face Juventus in their final group game of the FIFA Club World Cup - where you can watch every match live and free on DAZN.
City lost 2-0 away to the Serie A giants last December during a dismal Champions League campaign which saw them eventually dumped out by Real Madrid.
Now the sides meet again on Thursday at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium in their last game of Group G before the knockout stages.
Both teams have already qualified for the Round of 16 but tomorrow’s showdown will decide who finishes top and Akanji said the scars of last year’s Champions League defeat to Juve have yet to fully heal.
The Swiss star missed that game but told DAZN: “I obviously watched the game from home because I was injured.
“But yes, we lost there, so we want to set this right. We want to win against them and go first in the group.”
Juventus are top of Group G by virtue of having scored one more goal than City, who beat Al Ain 6-0 last time out.
Pep Guardiola’s side must therefore win to finish as group winners and Akanji added: “I think we also had enough chances to score more goals [against Al Ain].
“It could have helped us if we scored one goal more but you never know what happens in the Juventus game. In the end anyway we go into the last game to win it.”
Akanji is expecting a stern test from a Juventus side who followed their opening 5-0 win against Al Ain with a 4-1 victory over Wydad.
The Switzerland international said: “They have played really good football so far – really high, intense and obviously offensively they've been really good as well.
“They scored a lot of goals so far, so we got to be ready for that.”
Yet City have not conceded a goal in their opening two games and Akanji added: “Hopefully we can keep that streak up.
“It’s also like a bonus, I would say, for us defenders and the keepers, when you can keep the clean sheet. And we try to keep this against Juventus next.”
