Premier League weekend wrap-up: Arsenal and Chelsea battle, Liverpool end another losing streak and the relegation fight heats up

November is officially a wrap in the Premier League following another weekend of action-packed games.

We saw a fiery London derby, Liverpool earning a much-needed victory, and the shaping of a brutal relegation battle.

Here are some of the bigger talking points from Matchweek 13.

Chelsea, Arsenal beat each other up

In each of the last two times Chelsea and Arsenal met at Stamford Bridge for a Premier League match, the London rivals played to a draw. So it's not exactly surprising that the clubs did the same thing on Sunday.

Billed as a top-of-the-table clash, the match lived up to the hype — but only in terms of intensity. As a pure footballing experience, Sunday's 1-1 draw wasn't much to write home about, with both goals coming off headers and precious little was produced in terms of free-flowing play.

This was reflected in the statistics as the teams committed 25 fouls between them (Arsenal had 13 to Chelsea's 12), with seven yellow cards (6-1 for Arsenal) and a red card shown to Chelsea's midfield buzz saw Moises Caicedo.

In boxing terms, this was a heavyweight fight between two contenders for the title, with both sides throwing haymakers — sometimes literally — and discarding of the sweet science.

Neither side was truly satisfied with the result, with Reece James calling the draw "disappointing" despite his team playing with 10 men for nearly an hour.

But given that these are the two best teams in the Premier League in terms of recent form, the stalemate isn't a shock. Both sides will be back to their best in the near future.

Liverpool can breathe a sigh of relief, for now

With their 2-0 win at West Ham United on Sunday, the Reds ended their three-match losing streak, which consisted of two Premier League games and a midweek Champions League fixture.

It was a cathartic result as it involved Alexander Isak scoring the game winner and no real stress towards the end of the match, thanks in part to Lucas Paqueta's bone-headed late ejection for the Hammers.

While West Ham seems to be destined for a relegation fight (more on that below), the Reds needed a victory more than their hosts. Liverpool had fallen into the bottom half of the table for the first time this season after collecting just two points over the previous two months, and another loss would have put the club in its second three-match league losing skid of the season already.

Additionally, Isak has struggled to make an impact since joining Liverpool in a record-breaking summer transfer from Newcastle, so having the Swedish striker score the goal that secured them the victory was icing on the cake.

Liverpool still has much to do to get back to where they want to be, and there are still many questions that need to be answered about the make-up of the squad and manager Arne Slot's tactical choices. But for one week, Reds fans were reminded what a comfortable victory felt like.

Relegation battle shaping up

We can pretty much already give one of the three relegation spots to Wolves right now, as the club redefines the meaning of woeful with each passing week.

With just two points from 13 games, Wolves are well on pace to smash the league record for fewest points in a single season, so unless they somehow sign prime Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as well as the entire backline from AC Milan's 1993-94 squad during the January transfer window, it's a real good bet that they will be in the EFL Championship next August.

That leaves two more spots for the drop, and plenty of candidates to join Wolves in their Premier League exit.

After the weekend's action, the next four clubs above Wolves in the standings are separated by just two points. Nottingham Forest is currently the "best" of that group of teams, sitting 16th in the standings with 12 points. West Ham, Leeds, and Burnley are 17th through 19th, respectively, and none of these teams seem to want to break free from the danger by putting together a run of half-decent results.

All of the bottom sides, apart from Wolves, have shown the ability to pull off a win or two against superior teams — Forest's 3-0 destruction of Liverpool last week and West Ham defeating Newcastle earlier this month are just two recent examples.

But none seem to have the quality or know-how to put together a sustained run of results to escape the doldrums and at least join the mediocre middle of the table. This week's results reinforce that point, with all four of the bottom-dwellers losing their respective matches.

If this continues throughout the season, we could be in for an epic relegation fight that could rival the drama at the top of the table.

And while that might be thrilling for neutrals, fans of those clubs would likely prefer if their sides were just middling rather than awful.
