Brazil legend Ronaldo delivers emphatic verdict on FIFA Club World Cup

Brazil legend Ronaldo has hailed the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as "an amazing competition", expressing his delight at the success of Brazilian clubs in the revamped tournament.

The Selecao legend was on hand before Real Madrid's blockbuster semi-final with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The star, one of the most decorated forwards of all time, was a winner of the competition's predecessor the FIFA Intercontinental Cup with Madrid during his playing days.

But speaking before his old side take on their Euopean rivals, the attacker professed his enjoyment to see several clubs from his native country fly the flag in the United States.

"It's an amazing competition, what FIFA is doing," he said. "We saw all the fans, all the matches. The European teams have played like they are important games.

"I said before the competition that it was a very good test for Brazilian teams. We surprised a lot of them. We have a lot to improve in Brazil, as a national competition.

"But I'm very happy to see them compete with European teams, on a limited budget. I'm very proud of the Brazilian teams."

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup featured four sides from Brazil, with all of them reaching the knockout stages of the tournament.

Both Fluminense and Palmeiras reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals respectively, with Chelsea ending their respective campaigns.
