Sheffield United manager sends message to fans after being 'pumped' by Aston VillaDAZN
It was a long evening for the Blades at home.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has apologised to fans after losing 5-0 at home to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Blades found themselves 4-0 down within half an hour, goals from John McGinn, Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and Youri Tielemans put the result beyond doubt before half-time.

And with United already bottom of the Premier League and now 10 points adrift of safety, this defeat will be another hit to their confidence and morale going forward.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the match, Wilder took responsibility for the loss, but said the Blades must "roll their sleeves up" ahead of a crucial game at Luton next week.

"We were punished ruthlessly, it's a long way back from 4-0 down," said Wilder.

"There were basic individual errors and organisational errors. I'll take the rap for that. It was an atheltic young side who got put to bed.

"You have to take your medicine. We have to accept that and apologise to our supporters because they've been superb. We've let them down this evening.

"There's always a lot of noise about when teams get done three, four, five. It's such a difficult environment to be in. Our fans stuck with us to the end.

"I don't think there's anything to take out of today's performance. Nothing at all. We've been well and truly pumped.

"It's what you get paid for. I've had it before. It's not all been sunshine in my career. We have to not blame people. We have to accept it, roll our sleeves up and go again.

"We have a huge game at Luton and we have to show more than we did this afternoon."
