Three key clashes as Champions League big guns PSG and Bayern Munich go head-to-head

The Champions League rolls into matchday four of the league phase this week, with another round of mouth-watering fixtures across two nights of action.

Perhaps, however, the week's blockbuster game comes from the French capital, as reigning European champions PSG take on Europe's most in-form side Bayern Munich.

It's a game that wouldn't look out of place as the competition's final next year, with both teams expected to go deep in the competition.

DAZN News looks at the key clashes in the game to watch out for.

Stopping Harry Kane

It's something very few have managed to do this season, so can the PSG defence stop Europe's most in-form striker?

It will be the job of the French side's pairing of Illia Zabarnyi and William Pacho to keep Kane quiet, two defenders who have come into their own this season, but will face the sternest test they've faced and will be in for a tough evening.

Especially as it may not just be the England skipper they have to contend with. Vincent Kompany has recently deployed Kane in a slightly deeper role with Nicolas Jackson leading the line, although it may be a risky move to leave more space in the midfield against the quick attack of PSG.

Nevertheless, Kane has bested nearly every defence he's faced this season, whatever role he's played in and it will be the first job for PSG's centre-back pairing to keep him as quiet as possible.

Attack vs attack IMAGO

There is so much attacking talent on display in this one, there promises to be goalmouth action at both ends, but one of the most interesting areas could be down the flanks.

In Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes, PSG have two of the most attacking full-backs in Europe, but they'll come up against an attack which is likely to include Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, both of whom have been in incredible form for Bayern.

While no slouches in defence, with them being among the best full-backs around, what the PSG pair must be wary of is the spaces exposed when they pile forward.

Because Diaz has the pace to exploit those areas to deadly effect, while Olise's ability to find pockets between the lines to feed the attack or make room to create something for himself is something PSG will need to make sure they don't help with.

Men in the middle

For all the attack on show, could this game be won by whoever gains control in the middle of the park?

Vitinha has been rightly lauded for his performances in being the break from the gas in PSG's blistering line-up, who can dictate the tempo the game when needed. His performances were so good, only Ousmane Dembele and Lamine Yamal were voted ahead of him in this season's Ballon d'Or.

However, he won't be afforded as much time and influence against Bayern, especially if Joshua Kimmich has anything to do with it. The German has played at such a consistently impressive level for so long that it's easy to forget what he brings to a team.

Whoever comes out on top in this area could well make the difference in a game bound to be decided by tight margins.
