Location

The club plays in the city of Saitama, part of the Greater Tokyo Area.

Their Saitama Stadium 2002 is the largest football-specific stadium in Japan.

Origin

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries established a football club in 1950  in Kobe and moved the club to Tokyo in 1958.

The club's name was then changed to ''Mitsubishi Urawa Football Club'' in April 1992, and their nickname was "Red Diamonds". However, in February 1996, the club's name was changed to "Urawa Red Diamonds."

The man who led the Diamonds to their Champions League win in 2022 returned to the club in 2024 after carving out a management career in his homeland.  

A coach since 1994, the 53-year-old won silverware with four different Polish clubs before making history in Japan.
