It wasn't pretty, but it's exactly what Nottingham Forest wanted.

Forest escaped London Stadium with a 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Tuesday in a match that could have big ramifications in the Premier League relegation battle, as the Tricky Trees are now six points clear of the drop zone.

Things didn't start well for the visitors, who fell behind in the 13th minute due to an own goal. However, Forest kept pushing and scored twice in the second half, with Nicolas Dominguez equalizing in the 55th minute before Morgan Gibbs-White scored an 89th-minute penalty to secure all three crucial points.

"Incredible," Gibbs-White told Sky Sports moments after the final whistle. "It wasn't a nice game. We knew it was going to be a battle because of the position of both teams. What I liked from the boys is we didn't give up and we fought until the end."

A potential second goal for West Ham was overruled after a video review just moments into the second half, sparing Forest from having to try to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole. For Gibbs-White, the disallowed goal changed everything.

"Again, we seem to keep conceding straight after half-time," he said. "When that got disallowed, it changed the momentum of the game. It brought belief in the squad. Delighted we got the three points.

"We should be starting every game with full belief, but it has not been that case recently. Their goal put us on a downer, but we reacted well."

As for his penalty, which also required a video review to confirm, Gibbs-White said he got "whacked in the face" but was unsure whether he was fouled by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

However, when it came time to step up to the spot, he was confident in his ability to bury the shot.

"No doubts," Gibbs-White said. "I was practicing it yesterday."
