It wasn't the 90-minute performance they were looking for, but Manchester United claimed a comfortable 4-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium on Monday to close Matchweek 16 of the Premier League.

The Red Devils struck first but allowed their struggling hosts to equalize just before halftime, leading to a heated team talk from Ruben Amorim at the break.

Whatever Amorim said to his players worked, as United dominated the final 45 minutes and scored three unanswered goals to pull away from the last-place side.

Mason Mount, who scored the Red Devils' third goal, explained how the feeling throughout the team changed from halftime to after the final whistle.

"It was an important win for us," Mount told Sky Sports immediately after the match. "Obviously, [in the] first half we let them back in it before halftime, and we go into the changing room frustrated and disappointed with the end of the first half.

"The manager had a few things to say, and we come out there, and it was down to us to attack with purpose and finish our chances we were creating.

"We're happy with the second half, parts of the first half as well. Overall, very happy with that."

Mount was one of three goal scorers on the day for the Red Devils, along with captain Bruno Fernandes, who scored the game's first and last goals, and Bryan Mbeumo. Mount said the entire team attacked "with freedom," which led to the outburst of goals.

"I thought some of the combinations going forward were crisp, were sharp, and that's what we can do,' he said.

"We know we can do that. It's about us creating as many chances as we can as forward players and trying to get on the scoresheet.

"I thought going forward we were solid, and as a defence it's about defending as a team and not letting them have any chances to get back into the game."
