Cody Rhodes hints at possible classic design change for WWE ChampionshipWWE
Rhodes is the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion following WrestleMania

WWE's new era began on Sunday night when Cody Rhodes finally finished his story and defeated Roman Reigns to end his three-year run as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Rhodes' win, in what's being described as the greatest main event in WrestleMania history, signals his first run with a world championship in WWE and one of the first tasks on his agenda could be a plea for WWE to change the championship belt.

In 2011, Rhodes famously brought back the old-school version of the Intercontinental Title when he won the belt from Ezekiel Jackson. Now fans are calling for the American Nightmare to do the same with the WWE title and bring back the much-loved 'winged eagle' belt from the 1990s, and Rhodes is onboard with reinstating the design.

In an interview after WrestleMania on the Pat McAfee Show, the 38-year-old said he would do what he could to bring it back.

"I think we should probably just come right out with it," he told the panel.

"This (the current WWE title belt) is what I got in the ring so there’s a level of specialness to this, equity that’s been put into it, that I have a warm feeling about so I feel differently about it today.

"However, that said, I had changed a title previously in the past. I am not in charge of anything, I am no longer an EVP, I have no stroke other than the fact that I’m the champion but I just think it would be special perhaps to see a particular championship, one that I grew up on.

"I'm not in charge of anything. Triple H is in charge of things but you guys are damn right, the winged eagle. If it doesn’t happen, just don’t get mad at me, okay? I’ll do what I did the last time, I’m going to try my best so thank you, guys."
