Shakur Stevenson will step into something of the unknown this Saturday when he faces late substitute, Josh Padley, live on DAZN PPV.

The last-minute drama and unpredictability expected on fight week has hit the Newark native as he now faces a new opponent on just three days' notice.

Stevenson had been expected to face fellow American, Floyd Schofield, but that bout is no longer happening after Schofield became ill and was withdrawn by the BBBofC.

Padley, who took the unbeaten record of Mark Chamberlain last September, received the call and just a few hours later he was on a plane to Saudi Arabia.

The Doncaster man will now fight for the WBC lightweight title, and he has the chance to cause a huge shock against one of boxing’s best fighters.

Stevenson enters the contest with some uncertainty surrounding him after he had to deal with his own crisis last year when he pulled out of a fight with Joe Cordina.

Stevenson’s reason for the withdrawal was an injured hand and he would later undergo surgery to correct issues with the matter.

Having his first fight since going under the knife, Stevenson will be hoping there are no problems and that he can deal with an expected onslaught from Padley.

Chris Mannix, who has followed Stevenson's career closely, is eager to see if the champion’s hand is 100%.

“I think the big question with Shakur going into this fight is how will his hand hold up?” said Mannix when speaking exclusively to DAZN News

“He’s just recently had surgery on it. If you look at it closely you can still see the scar on his right hand.

“When I talked to him this week, I asked him point blank, ‘how is the hand?’ and he said, ‘Getting there.’ That’s not the kind of answer you are looking for if you’re someone in Team Shakur.

“He’s already said that he can only fight twice a year, but with a new opponent, who has plenty of energy, he needs to be able to throw that right hand.”
