Eddie Hearn confirms new agreeement with in-demand pound-for-pound superstar

Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Jesse Rodriguez will remain a Matchroom fighter after speculation linking him with a move elsewhere. 

In recent years, Hearn has masterminded Bam’s rise, with the Texan becoming one of boxing’s best fighters thanks to a number of impressive displays that have demonstrated why he is so highly regarded. 

Rodriguez has made himself a big star in the lower weight categories, and he continues to be linked to a huge showdown against Japanese superstars Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani. 

This incredible rise has made Rodriguez a major name in the sport, and when news emerged that his contract with Matchroom was nearing its end, it was clear he would be in demand, with many promotional outfits eager to add the American to their stable.  

Last week, there were rumours that Zuffa Boxing, fronted by Dana White, were interested in making a play for Rodriguez, but one condition in his contract with Hearn is that the British promoter could match any offer Rodriguez receives. 

In attendance for Raymond Muratalla’s world title defence against Andy Cruz, a fight won by the former, Hearn was asked about the situation and revealed he has matched the offer made to Rodriguez and is now making plans for his next fight 

“We have already. We’re in a good position with Bam,” said Hearn when speaking to IFLTV shortly after the Muratalla vs Cruz fight. 

“We’ll be moving forward and we’ll be announcing his next fight very soon...we move forward and we’ll be looking to make the undisputed fight in April.”
