What's at stake for the fighters on the Lamont Roach Jr. vs. Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz card?

DAZN
Masoud vs. McGrail - Saturday - live on DAZN

The year in boxing is nearing its final bell, but not before an action-packed card headlined by Lamont Roach Jr. clashing with Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz for the vacant WBC interim junior welterweight world championship Saturday night.

The PBC pay-per-view event, live from Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, also features three additional titles bouts including the chief support between WBC superfeatherweight world champion O'Shaquie Foster and two-division world titleholder Stephen Foster.

With so much on the line, DAZN News breaks down what’s at stake for all the fighters in this weekend’s exciting card.

Frank Martin vs. Rances Barthelemy

At stake for Frank Martin

The last time the boxing world saw Frank Martin in the ring, he was left flat on his back staring up at the lights courtesy of a vicious left across the jaw in an eighth-round knockout loss at the hands of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in June 2024.

Nearly 18 months later, Martin (18-1, 12 KOs) returns to action with a chance to show critics and fans how much he has grown from that trying experience by taking on a seasoned, former two-division world champion in Rances Barthelemy.

A splashy win and the 30-year-old Martin will put himself right into the mix at 140 pounds for a promising 2026.

At stake for Rances Barthelemy

At 39, Rances Barthelemy (30-3-1 with 1 no contest, 15 KOs) has lost two of his last three fights including a unanimous decision to Jose Ramirez in April 2024.

Having been inactive for even longer than Martin, the former two-division world champion can use this fight as an opportunity to show that he is still capable of defeating a younger fighter.

Jesus Ramos Jr. vs. Shane Mosley Jr.

At stake for Jesus Ramos Jr.

A unanimous decision loss to Erickson Lubin as the only blemish on his record, Jesus Ramos Jr. (23-1, 19 KOs) responded to his sole defeat by rattling off three straight knockout victories including the seventh-round TKO he tendered against Guido Emmanuel Schramm in April.

With this bout, he can claim the vacant WBC interim middleweight title and press liftoff on his own star trajectory.

At stake for Shane Mosley Jr.

The son of a Boxing Hall of Famer in Shane Mosley, Shane Mosley Jr.’s professional trek has been anything but easy.

Four losses attached to his name would be demoralizing to the point of no return for many.

For Mosley Jr. it has spelled a rite of fiery passage he has navigated his way through toward being on the brink of capturing an interim title at 160 pounds.

Riding a five-fight win streak, defeating the likes of Gabriel Rosado, D’Mitrius Ballard and Daniel Jacobs as a part of that run, Mosley Jr. (21-4-2, 12 KOs) can notch his most meaningful win yet Saturday night. Plus, he would become the mandatory challenger to WBC middleweight world champion Carlos Adames in the New Year.

Erislandy Lara vs. Johan Gonzalez

At stake for Erislandy Lara

Erislandy Lara was set to unify titles with Janibek Alimkhanuly but those plans were dashed after the latter had an adverse finding for a PED, as reported by The Ring.

Instead, Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) will look to show his wealth of experience and produce a technically-sound fight in trying to defend his WBA middleweight world title against replacement Johan Gonzalez.

We know that Terence Crawford had his eyes on Alimkhanuly prior to the failed test, so perhaps a convincing title defense from Lara will put the Cuban on Crawford's radar.

At 42, Lara has hit a power surge with four straight stoppage victories during the twilight of his career.

At stake for Johan Gonzalez

After stepping in as a late replacement for Janibek Alimkhanuly, Johan Gonzalez has a chance to seize the moment and Lara's title all in one swoop.

Gonzalez (36-4, 34 KOs) is a hard-hitting knockout artist, counting 34 of his 36 pro victories by stoppage. He is coming off a split-decision win over Jarrett Hurd earlier this year.

His power and battle-tested experience makes this a suddenly intriguing bout.

O'Shaquie Foster vs. Stephen Fulton Jr.

At stake for O'Shaquie Foster

At times during this fight’s buildup, WBC junior lightweight world champion O’Shaquie Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) has felt like he has been disrespected and treated as if he is the ‘B’ side to Stephen Fulton Jr.

This bout, which has now been elevated to a co-main event, gives him the platform to plump up his fighting profile in his biggest signature win yet at the expense of a two-division world champion in Fulton Jr. whose only loss came against pound-for-pound great Naoya Inoue.

At stake for Stephen Fulton Jr.

Already a two-division world champion, Stephen Fulton Jr. (23-1, 8 KOs) can put himself in Hall of Fame contention by moving yet another weight class up and taking hardware in it.

He just did it against Brandon Figueroa, snatching the WBC featherweight title, and now doing it at 130 pounds would only add to the Philadelphia fighter’s growing legacy.

Lamont Roach Jr. vs. Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz

At stake for Lamont Roach Jr.

Lamont Roach Jr. won over plenty of fans who thought he did enough to have his hand raised in what was called a controversial draw against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis earlier this year.

Now, the WBA junior lightweight champ moves up two weight classes to contend with another aggressive heavy hitter in Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz for the vacant WBC interim super lightweight title.

Outpointing a forward-fighting force like Cruz could position Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) for a huge 2026, with more star power to his fighting profile.

At stake for Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz already reigned as a super lightweight world champion but lost the WBA title to Jose Valenzuela back in August 2024.

This bout for the interim WBC super lightweight strap could be just what Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) needs to ascend back to championship status at 140 pounds.
