Week 14 of the 2025 NFL season arrives with a bang, as the Detroit Lions (7-5) host the Dallas Cowboys (6-5-1) at Ford Field in a Thursday Night Football clash that could make or break each team's season.
With the postseason picture starting to take shape, this game is one of four we're previewing - all of which feature huge swings in playoff odds based on the result.
So make the most of DAZN’s latest Game Pass deal, which gives you this game and the full Week 14 slate for only 99p, and buckle in for a prime-time night of drama.
Dallas comes in high on confidence, having won three straight, including statement victories over the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.
Quarterback Dak Prescott has been the driving force behind the team's hot streak, aided by a supremely talented trio of pass catchers comprising wideouts George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb, and tight end Jake Ferguson.
The league's second-highest scoring offense fares well on the ground, too, where tailback Javonte Williams sits sixth in rushing yardage among all running backs - a career high mark for the 25-year-old.
The Cowboys' secondary has faced much criticism this year, but help may be at hand: Cornerback Trevon Diggs, sidelined since Week 6, was limited in practice on Monday.
With Quinnen Williams adding real punch inside, Jadeveon Clowney heating up, and DeMarvion Overshown looking sharper each week, Dallas’ defense might finally bare its teeth on Thursday night.
Detroit is dealing with several injuries to key contributors, including offensive tackles Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, cornerback Terrion Arnold, and safety Brian Branch.
Arnold will miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. St. Brown is a game-time decision, while Sewell, Decker, and Branch were limited in practice on Wednesday and are listed as questionable for the game.
On a short turnaround, and considering they're already without tight end Sam LaPorta and safety Kerby Joseph (knee), the latest injuries are a bitter, untimely blow to HC Dan Campbell's playoff hopes.
Still, it speaks to how talented this roster is that quarterback Jared Goff, wideout Jameson Williams, and Jahmyr Gibbs scored more points against the Packers on Thanksgiving than any other team since October.
Potent though Goff and Co. remain offensively, they may need more help than usual from their defense, where the onus will fall on elite playmakers, Aidan Hutchinson and Jack Campbell.
Currently, Dallas' playoff odds are 16%. Win, and that skyrockets to 31%. Lose, and they can all but wave goodbye to any hope of January football.
The Lions have a 43% chance of making the postseason heading into this one. A win increases their odds to 58%, whereas a loss leaves them at only 23%.
Both teams know what's at stake and will leave it all on the field in their pursuit of victory.
On current form, and considering the injury woes the Lions are facing, these are two evenly-matched teams. We're somewhat on the fence.
If Sewell and St. Brown play and are healthy enough to be anywhere near their best, the odds tilt in the Lions' favour. Otherwise, the Cowboys have the edge.
This scoreline prediction assumes the Lions will be short-handed and that Pickens and Lamb will wreak havoc in Detroit's ailing secondary.
Dallas 30 – 21 Detroit
