Fox Sports announced on Friday that former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez will be returning to commentate on games. Former NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion Drew Brees has replaced Sanchez.
"We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network. There will be no further comment at this time," a Fox Sports spokesperson said Friday to DAZN.
The 38-year-old is facing a felony battery charge and multiple misdemeanors after the former New York Jet allegedly attacked a truck driver outside the Indianapolis hotel on Saturday, Oct. 4, as Sanchez was in the city for FOX to get ready to announce the Colts-Raiders game the following day.
The police report says that Sanchez allegedly accosted 69-year-old Perry Tole when, apparently, a confrontation ensued over a parking situation, which led to Tate, who said he was defending himself, stabbing Sanchez multiple times to the upper right torso.
Tole has sued Sanchez and Fox. Corp over the alleged incident because he's suffered "severe permanent disfigurement, loss of function, other physical injuries, emotional distress, and other damages".
Sanchez hasn't commented directly on the firing, but his brother Nick released a statement on behalf of the family.
"While the recent news -- and its timing -- is understandably disappointing, our priority remains his continued healing and recovery," Nick Sanchez Jr. said. "Mark deeply values his time at FOX and the exceptional colleagues he's had the privilege to work with. Those relationships are meaningful and will endure."
